Manufacturers are looking for new sounds to make eclectic cars louder.

RTL met the French racing driver Anthony Beltoise on a circuit near , at the wheel of the Hyundai IONIQ 5N. Inside, it feels like a racing car. Because the manufacturer has identically reproduced the sound of a sports car. It’s 100% artificial, but astonishingly realistic. “The more you accelerate, the more noise it makes. We have an engine sound, we have an exhaust sound, we have the sound of the gearbox. It’s a pure gimmick, but it’s 100% fun“, reacted the latter. This noise, which can be disconnected, does not change the performance. It is just the sensation of driving a muscular car.

RTL then went to Renault’s sound design center. Located in , this new recording studio is hidden from view, sealed and soundproofed. Laurent Wormsthe conductor, designed the sound of the new R5 E-Tech and its cousin, theAlpine electric. “We are going to look for the right synthesizer which will allow us to find the right sound material which will embody the brand,” he explained.

There are in-house composers, but also the most famous like Jean-Michel Jarre, who created the sound of the new electric R5 and the Scenic. “The car engines that make us dream are cars that backfire. The electric car is not at all in this logic. This is the reason why I started with something quite optimistic,” said this French pioneer of electronic music. Recalling the existence of “very precise regulations in terms of level. The sound must be loud enough to be perceptible and warn pedestrians.”

For interior noise, on the other hand, there is no limit. And in this matter, the imagination will go further and further.
