(Keystone-ATS) The Martin+Marianne Haefner charitable foundation, based in Zurich, is part of the settlement of Mr. Haefner’s estate, its spokesperson Aloys Hirzel told AWP on Tuesday evening, after an article published by the Luzerner Zeitung. The foundation will one day own all the stakes in companies, he said.
However, this will only be the case when neither spouse is alive, according to the Lucerne newspaper. The couple’s fortune, including stakes in companies, will only be held by the foundation after their death, Mr. Hirzel stressed.
Last year, Martin Haefner celebrated his 70th birthday. In addition to Amag, it has significant stakes in industrial companies such as Swiss Steel, Autoneum and Rieter.
According to the Commercial Register, the foundation was established in mid-December last year. It is chaired by the chairman of the board of directors of Flughafen Zürich, Josef Felder, who has been a member of the board of directors of Amag for years, of which he is vice-chairman.
The assets of the foundation will be used, where applicable, for purposes of public utility in Switzerland in the fields of science, technology, the fight against poverty, culture and biodiversity of flora and wildlife. Its main focus will be science and technology, the fight against poverty and the advancement of women, according to the Commercial Register.
