Samsung will release its Ballie robot before summer

Ballie lives! Samsung’s small spherical robot, unveiled for the first time at CES 2020, will finally be marketed in the first half of 2025. Samsung made the announcement at the end of its CES conference dedicated to Smart Home. We thought it was dead for a while before Samsung resurrected it in a revamped version (and twice as big) last year.

As a reminder, Ballie is a robot the size of a bowling ball (compared to a grapefruit during its first iteration) and is equipped with a projector to display photos and videos on the walls or on the ground. You can also interact with it through voice commands. It is supposed to have a Lidar to be able to find its way in space, and an infrared sensor to communicate with certain household appliances.

Samsung did not provide further information on its price or capabilities. However, we will undoubtedly have to expect a very premium positioning with a limited number of units. In another vein, Samsung bought the Korean start-up Rainbow Robotics last week to form a new subsidiary dedicated to humanoid robots and called “Future Robotics Office”.
