In Exit Abovethe immense choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker invites us on a journey to the roots of dance, with the famous “Walking Blues” by legendary bluesman Robert Johnson as a musical guide. Or a choreographic return to the source of walking, the primary form of movement of the human species, which leads us to The Wanderercomposition by Franz Schubert. While Meskerem Mees, today’s young singer-songwriter, signs a series of stripped-down variations in collaboration with Jean-Marie Aerts, sound architect of TC Matic, an iconic Belgian group from the 1980s, without forgetting the dancer and guitarist Carlos Garbin .
Through these “Walking Songs”, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker plays on the tension between wandering – the solitary and romantic “Wandern” – and the political potential represented by a group of unarmed people who walk together, oscillating between the individual and the collective, the line and the circle.
Performances from January 13 to 15 at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
