Apple Intelligence works exclusively on devices with a sufficiently powerful chip, like the A17 or M1, to ensure smooth processing. With iOS 18.2, the introduction of new features like Image Playground, Genmojior even ChatGPT in Siri has increased storage requirements to 7 GB. A rapid increase, compared to the 4 GB required until recently.
Apple has chosen to process everything locally, which means pre-downloading and storing AI models directly on each device. So, certainly, when it comes to confidentiality, we are more reassured. But in terms of available space, we are much more tight. Personal uses such as photos, videos or other applications will be affected. For people with multiple devices, such as an iPhone, an iPad and a Mac, this requirement multiplies: 21 GB can thus be mobilized just for Apple Intelligence.
As Apple's AI expands, users of 128 GB models face more of these constraints. Certain Pro Max devices, with 256 GB in minimum configuration, escape these limitations. For the others, surely more numerous, the equation becomes complex: take advantage of AI or keep their space for other needs?
