From January 1, 2025, the sanction falls for several Android smartphones which will be abandoned by WhatsApp. A list was already known, but it is circulating again with the deadline approaching.
- Samsung : Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola : Moto G, Razr HD, Moto E (2014)
- LG : Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony : Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
- HTC : One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
Such an unofficial list is not exhaustive. The bottom line is that the end of WhatsApp support on older Android devices affects those still running Android 4.4 (aka KitKat). Google Play Services have been obsolete there since summer 2023.
Soon iOS 15.1 at least for the iPhone
On the iPhone side, a slightly more distant deadline should be kept in mind with WhatsApp. As of May 5, 2025, only iOS version 15.1 and later will be supported. Currently support is for iOS 12 and later.
