Appearing on CPU-Z, the imposing Ryzen 9 9950X3D is revealed a few weeks in advance. In particular, we discover that AMD’s new desktop processor will have many points in common with its “non-3D” version.
Expected at CES 2025, at the same time as AMD’s FSR 4 technology and the new Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards under RDNA 4 architecture, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D desktop processors are starting to make waves.
In this case, the more powerful of the two made a notable appearance on CPU-Z recently. We discover the main specifications of this Ryzen 9 9950X3D, enough to indulge more frankly in the game of comparisons with what the “classic” Ryzen 9 9950X already offers, launched this summer.
We then see that AMD has not made any major changes to its new generation of “3D” chips. The firm in fact maintains the same clock speeds as on “non-3D” references… and that’s precisely where the novelty lies. In the past, “3D” chips were limited to slightly lower frequencies than their “non-3D” cousins.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D progresses on frequencies
If we stick to information recently relayed by WCCFTechthe Ryzen 9 9950X3D would indeed have a maximum frequency of 5.65 GHz in boost, almost as much as the 5.7 GHz reached by the Ryzen 9 9950X. The appearance of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D on CPU-Z finally tells us about the TDP of the chip… which should go up to 170 W, as much as on the Ryzen 9 9950X.
Unsurprisingly, the main differences are observed in terms of onboard cache memory. The chip flashed on CPU-Z thus has a total of 96 + 32 MB of L3 cache. This definitively confirms that we are indeed facing a “3D” version. The presence of 16 cores and 32 threads also validates that it is indeed the Ryzen 9 9950X3D that we have before our eyes.
For context, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will normally have two Core Complex Dies (CCD), each bringing together eight cores coupled with 32 MB of dedicated L3 cache. One of them will also have an additional L3 cache chiplet, 64 MB, installed under the CCD, to bring the total number of L3 cache to 128 MB (and up to 144 MB if we counts the L2 cache in addition).
