Americans fond of virtual reality
Essential for configuring a new Meta virtual reality headset, the Meta Horizon application is still at the top of the ranking of the most downloaded applications in the United States on iPhone – ahead of ChatGPT. On the Android side, it is in third position. But let’s remember that Android smartphones are in the minority in Uncle Sam’s country: there, 57% of mobiles are iPhones.
If we still do not know which models have been placed under the Christmas trees across the Atlantic, there is no doubt that the recent Meta Quest 3S has been a great success. As efficient as the excellent Meta Quest 3, it is priced from €329 in France and $299 in the United States. A particularly affordable gateway to virtual reality.
Apple’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, does not require any special application to configure, we do not know if it was a bestseller this end of the year. But, judging by its price of $3,499, let’s assume that Santa’s sack only concealed a handful.
And in France, then?
In France, the market is very different. Already, unlike the United States, Android smartphones are the majority, with more than 80% of models and just under 20% iPhones. It is therefore the Google Play Store which can best inform us about the possible popularity of VR headsets during Christmas.
No more suspense: Meta Horizon is not even among the 200 most popular free applications, according to the specialist site App Figures. On the other hand, the Samsung Smart Switch application, facilitating the migration of data from a smartphone to a Samsung model, is in third place. Move to iOS, which allows the same thing to an iPhone, is in seventh place – suggesting that many smartphones were given away during the holidays.
The JBL Headphones application, allowing you to configure the brand’s speakers and headphones, also features prominently (5e position). In other words: virtual reality does not seem to be an area that particularly interests French people.
