Microsoft has just updated its technical support documentation to help users experiencing Windows update issues.

The Redmond giant has enriched its support articles with detailed instructions on using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

This documentation update comes at a good time as the company strengthens its system repair tools.

Microsoft recently introduced a new feature in Windows 11. Called “ Troubleshoot Windows Update », it is accompanied by explanations of its limits of use.

The updated documentation covers both Windows 10 and Windows 11, although an important warning about the upcoming end of Windows 10 support is now prominently displayed. Microsoft also recommends that users no longer use this aging operating system.

Microsoft finally details the procedure for uninstalling an update

The new guide details the procedure for uninstalling an update via the WinRE environment, particularly useful when Windows no longer starts correctly. The procedure is broken down into three simple steps:

  • Access the Windows recovery environment,
  • Select “Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall updates”,
  • Choose between uninstalling the latest quality or functional update.

An important point concerns BitLocker users: Microsoft emphasizes thata BitLocker recovery key will be required to use some tools. This clarification is particularly relevant in the context of Windows 11 24H2, where BitLocker and Auto-DE play a crucial role in security.

Note that the publisher has also added a shortcut to the recovery settings menu in its Windows 11 installation advice on non-compatible machines.
