How can we forget the Copa Mundial and its 40 years of history? An iconic model of the 80s that has become one of the most used pairs in the history of football boots, the Copa Mundial no longer has as much power as it once did. But becauseadidas is strongly attached to this model, the COPA Icon was imagined in 2022 and is reinvented in a new version today.
COPA Icon: the modern version of the World Cup
A few days after the launch of the new COPA Pure 3, adidas unveiled another COPA, but which ultimately has little to do with the first. Worn by referees during the 2022 World Cup, the COPA Icon is in reality a complementary product to the COPA Pure range. In design, first of all, it asserts a very classic silhouette. Whether it’s the heel, the sole or the tongue, the brand with the three stripes played the classic card, and it’s the same thing in terms of colors since the COPA Icon was revealed in a black/white mix of one side and white/black/red on the other. A great classic for adidas.
Technologically, the COPA Icon 2 has a cowhide leather upper, which is the historic material for football boots. Less and less used by brands which prefer to move towards materials of non-animal origin, leather remains used on products like the Copa Mundial or the Kaiser 5 Liga, which is its variation. For the rest, the technologies used on the COPA Icon 2 are relatively classic for this price range, including a sole with conical studs and not sipes as on most new products. Here again, it is the legacy of the Copa Mundial which is at the origin of this element.
Available for sale in two different colors, the COPA Icon 2 is sold in sizes 36 to 48 2/3 by the three-stripe brand, which allows it to cover a wide spectrum of practitioners.
