Nvidia has just presented the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, its latest addition to the range of compact AI computers. Priced at $249, this powerful mini-computer offers significantly better artificial intelligence performance than its predecessor, for half the price.

Comparable to a Raspberry Pi specialized in AI processing, this new kit displays impressive performance. Neural processing power has increased by 70%, reaching 67 TOPS (operations per second) compared to 40 TOPS for the previous model. Memory bandwidth also increased by 50%, peaking at 102 GB/s.

The heart of the system is based on a module integrating un GPU Nvidia Ampere with tensor cores and a 6-core ARM CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz. The device has 8 GB of DRAM memory and can be powered via USB-C or a proprietary barrel connector.

Nvidia’s minicomputer is actually a supercomputer

The connectivity is particularly rich with four USB 3.2 Type-A ports at 10 Gbpstwo MIPI CSI connectors for cameras, and M.2 2280 and 2230 slots for SSD. No USB-C port is present, which is a bit strange. The kit also includes a 40-pin GPIO compatible with Raspberry Pi accessories.

According to Nvidia, performance is impressive in several areas: an improvement of 1.37 to 1.63 times for language models (LLM), 1.36 to 2.04 times for vision models, and 1. 43 to 1.69 times for “ vision transformers ».

Nvidia specifies that Users of current Orin Nano cards will also benefit from a performance boost similar via a JetPack software update. For example, the Orin NX 16 GB will go from 100 to 157 TOPS, while the 8 GB version will go from 70 to 117 TOPS.

This new development kit is positioned as an ideal solution for creating chatbots, visual AI agents or intelligent robots. It will be available across the Atlantic in the coming days from major retailers, including Amazon, DigiKey, Arrow.com and Seeed Studio.
