At the start of the year, the Xbox community was hit hard by Microsoft's stated change in strategy in video games. Indeed, the Redmond firm has proven on numerous occasions its desire to attract more players, hence the release of Grounded, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi RUSH on other platforms. While it is difficult for players to see clearly, Matt Booty has once again provided some clarification.
Xbox explains a little more about the release of its games on PlayStation
In an interview with Variety, the man at the head of Xbox Studios confirmed that regarding the release of games on other platforms, there are no established rules. Indeed, society makes decisions game by game. He also took the opportunity to discuss the case of Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle.
“We make the decisions [d’exclusivité et de fenêtrage] game by game. And each of our studios is in a little different position.
There's also a game's production schedule, so the decision on spacing comes first. We want to make sure Xbox players get a great experience, then the gap between the two [lorsque le jeu sera disponible sur PlayStation] is as much a production decision as anything else. This game was in production before we even bought Bethesda.”
There is therefore nothing to indicate that the entire Xbox catalog will end up on competing consoles. To date, we only know that Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle will debut on PlayStation 5 in spring 2025, then that DOOM: The Dark Ages will benefit from a simultaneous release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC upon its launch in 2025.
We can logically assume without getting too wet that all future productions designed for multiplayer will be in the same scenario, such as the next Call of Duty, or the new IP of ZeniMax Online (The Elder Scrolls Online).
Either way, the next few months and years are likely to be full of unexpected things.
