Beware of this end-of-year bonus scam sent by email to employees

As the end of the year approaches, this scam can unfortunately claim victims. Employees receive an email that displays the name of their company, as well as their first and last name. With a message announcing the upcoming receipt of a bonus, as detailed on the site Econostrum.

The problem is that the email contains a attachment entitled “Annual_Q4_Benefits_&_Bonus_2024.docx”. And it is the latter file that is corrupt.

A QR code that closes the trap

The information in the email being accurate, the employee is not suspicious and opens the attachment. Word offers to repair the document, a QR code is then displayed.

We are then redirected to a fake Microsoft page where you are asked to enter personal information, including bank details, in order to receive the bonus.

If you are a victim, or know someone who is, contact your bank to object. To ensure that you are not the victim of a scam, the best thing is to contact your company's human resources.
