A woman recently had the unpleasant surprise of learning during the session that her tattoo had been designed by artificial intelligence. Vital information which was transmitted to her in the middle of the session and which greatly disappointed this resident of Helsinki (Finland), reports The Wall Street Journal.
Cheating?
“I was in shock. I was so disappointed”reacted Kaarina Vuorinen after specifying that her tattoo artist was proud to tell her this news. Despite this, the thirty-year-old let the professional finish the work without flinching. Today, she says she is not fully satisfied by the Gothic sword design coming from this artificial intelligence. According to her, it would have no soul.
A vision that is shared by other tattoo enthusiasts. Indeed, many are fighting against the use of artificial intelligence in this sector. However, as image generators become more and more accessible, this time-saving method is enjoying dazzling success, although compared to cheating by many tattoo artists. “It’s like exercising on steroids”confided one of them to our colleagues.
A different rendering
In detail, these generators create new images based on already existing works. To test this method, our colleagues from Futurism asked a generator to draw him “a red cardinal with dogwood flowers”. If the image seems successful, the result on the skin is more mixed.
And for good reason: according to Matthew Hatch, artificial intelligence would not take into account the rendering of ink on the skin. In the past, this Toronto tattoo artist has already received a client who came with an AI design. According to him, he could not achieve this tattoo as it was because the end result would have been similar to a hematoma. This is proof, if any were needed, that the use of artificial intelligence does not always make it possible to compete with the inventiveness of human beings.
