GOG.com: Blizzard removes Warcraft and Warcraft 2 from the merchant platform – News

This is a hard blow for the CD Projekt merchant platform as well as the players. Although the remastered versions are supposed to be the best possible versions of these two RTS masterpieces, being able to access the original versions legally was very nice, but Blizzard decided that we should settle for modernity. “ We are deeply saddened to announce that Warcraft et Warcraft 2 will leave our store on December 13th. […] It's hard to see these masterpieces leave our store, but it reminds us that our mission is important. »

Indeed, GOG.com campaigns for the preservation of video games through its official conservation program, which makes old games compatible with new operating systems without the original developers having to mobilize resources. Everything happens internally, at GOG.com. The merchant platform regrets that Blizzard has decided to withdraw Warcraft et Warcraft 2 after the efforts previously made to support them at the technical level. However, if you have already purchased them from GOG.com, the site assures that the preservation program continues.

« We are extremely proud of our work on Warcraft et Warcraft 2. We brought them back to life after several decades of unavailability and we improved certain aspects to make the experience as qualitative and faithful as possible. Although these games will soon be leaving our store, if you have purchased them, you will still be able to enjoy the best possible versions over time, as the GOG preservation program guarantees. And since we refuse DRM, you can always install these games in offline mode, which guarantees their use ad vitam aeternam. This is what these games – and players – deserve. »

A slap in the face of Blizzard which criticizes the Californian publisher for its very light management of archives. Previously, the Anaheim giant was pinned down by players with the removal of Warcraft 3, which was replaced by the miserable Warcraft 3: Reforged. For now, GOG is offering a bundle Warcraft & Warcraft 2 at €13.69 until further notice.
