The oldest of , Maria Gauvin, died on Saturday November 30, at the age of 111. We met her last August, on the occasion of her birthday, at the Grand-Fougeray nursing home (35), where she had been residing since 2022.

Born on August 22, 1913, Maria lived practically all her life in the small village of Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine, in the south of the department. “I was born there, I grew up there, I met my husband there, had my children: I did everything here,” the supercentenarian whispered to us last summer.

A huge family

At the age of 22, she married Pierre Gauvin, with whom she had six children. Over the years, the family continued to grow with 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Her loved ones remained close to her until the end.
