a Christmas song by the Goyette brothers

Ah, the Goyette brothers: that’s mythology that resembles us. Here they have used their time wisely to give us something that perhaps should always have existed in their catalog: after having covered the classic “Christmas at Camp” by Tex Lecor around ten years ago, they return today with a first original creation intended for the period of celebration. A very North American allegory of the overflow of exterior decorations, “Conte d’Hydro” is available now on listening and download platforms.

And the breakers fart
I work in high voltage
The spin counter like a skillsaw
This year Christmas is hitting hard on the hydro account

About mythology, we said: the Goyette siblings are vast, populated by timeless characters as well as others who have faded from memory but who Mario Goyettechief historian of his gang, makes it his glorious duty to retrace. “Conte d’Hydro” therefore features Michael Goyettea former drummer of the group who shared the ambitions of a Chevy Chase when it came time to adorn his house with lights and other holiday brats – putting to the test his life and those of his neighbors who “burn and often complain” in favor of a show with explosive wattage. True to form, Mario personifies the protagonist with the reverence we know for him, carrying us through the ups and downs of a colorful one-upmanship that ultimately benefits the electricity supplier above all. This detail is, however, eclipsed by the magic of Christmas, that which nourishes the story and which we find in fine detail in the instrumentation of this song which crosses folk, bluegrass and indie rock hints, passing from a midnight mass choir to sleigh bells.

In 2023, the Goyette brothers launched their fifth album Prudence is Denisefollowed by the second season of The Goyette brothers’ polcastwhich incidentally ended with a Christmas episode. And on December 7, 2024, they will be performing at the chic Verre bottle in Montreal. So, in the world of the Goyettes, there is no chance, only certainties: Christmas comes every year, and so do they.
