The Lafontaine Restaurant in Montmagny made a donation of approximately $1,500 to the Montmagny Hospital for the purchase of seven small interactive robotic animals. These are used to stimulate and break the isolation of people with cognitive disorders who require medical care. “We all have seniors who are close to our hearts, and we want to give them happiness and comfort,” explain the restaurant’s owners, Bianca Bernier and Martin Desroches.
The robotic animals were designed by the Quebec company Eugeria and they interact with the touch and movement of the patient by reproducing the behavior of a pet. The Department of Medicine and Surgery now has three cats, two puppies and two birds. A bit like pet therapy, these small robotic animals offer gentle medicine that promotes proximity and comforting contact both physically and psychologically.
