Jordan Bardella believes that his pension reform project will “increase the activity rate”

The president of the National Rally confirmed a future repeal of the pension reform if he was appointed to Matignon and a return of the legal age to 62.

“I want to increase the activity rate.” Jordan Bardella, for the National Rally, has specified the outlines of his future counter-reform of pensions. If he becomes Prime Minister, the repeal of the Macron reform would be effective in the fall. The legal age would be raised to 62 years with 42 years of contributions.

The Macron reform, which he had previously accused of being “unfair and ineffective”, the president of the National Rally also considers costly: “the pension reform implemented by Emmanuel Macron (…) has hidden costs. What is not said is that two thirds of workers over 60 are now unemployed”.

According to him, the age shift would therefore increase social spending (unemployment, disability, RSA) to pay income supplements to unemployed people.

“When we postpone the retirement age, we increase social spending, this is a cost estimated by the Ministry of Health at 3.6 billion euros,” added the president of the far-right party.

“I am responding to a request from business leaders”

On the contrary, his counter-reform would be, according to him, a way of increasing the activity rate: “it becomes more interesting with my reform to enter the job market early”, he believes, “I am also responding to a demand from business leaders who cannot find the necessary workforce in a certain number of professions”.

“My pension reform is based on the logic that we can benefit those who enter the job market early and I want those who started before the age of 20, who have difficult jobs, to be able to retire” at 60 with 40 years of contributions to benefit from a full rate.

“Beyond that, there is a progression, that’s normal, but in the reform that I am defending everyone gains a little bit,” he concluded.
