New success for the Lévisium

From June 14 to 16, the second edition of the Lévis science and innovation festival, Lévisium, was held, which once again took place at Quai Paquet. This second edition marked “a new success”, while all the objectives of the organization “were achieved”.

This festival, open to the general public, aims to make science accessible to all. After “the success” of the first edition, which saw more than 10,000 people from across Quebec participate in the event, the organization clearly announced that it wanted to “double its objectives”.

“What was nice was that there were a lot of booths that were there last year that decided to come back this year. I think we managed to put together something that brings good feedback. We see that people are engaged and they leave with a smile. We had also added several new features to the programming,” first indicated Vikie Pedneault, spokesperson for Lévisium.

If last year, visitors were, among other things, able to meet scientific educators, participate in experiential activities, see shows and attend presentations of humor and science, including a conference by comedian Boucar Diouf and by magician Luc Langevin, this new edition also presented its share of activities.

Indeed, this year, there were hands-on workshops under the marquee hosted by Les Neurones atomiques, the Centre de présentation en sciences physiques, the Boîte à science, the Maison Léo Provancher, the Fab Lab and Bibitte Mobile.

Shows and conferences by Joshua Kutryk, astronaut from the Canadian space agency, Yannick Bergeron, creator of the experiments in the magazine Les Débrouillards, Robert Lamontagne, astrophysicist, and Vikie Pedneault were also on show.

“We are so happy, we had a very good citizen participation during the second edition. At the moment, we do not yet have the data on the number of people present, but we had an interesting participation. It did not stop at all during the three days. In addition, the weather was with us, which greatly helped to attract visitors. We are not only proud, we are also very grateful that people pay attention to science. That these people choose to come and learn outside of school and training, it is really positive,” rejoiced the co-founder of Lévisium.

A wish to return
Seeing “the great success” that the event generated as much last year as this year, Vikie Pedneault does not hide her ambition of wanting to continue the tradition next year by returning for a third edition, even if “nothing is confirmed” at this time.

“For us, it is certain that we have a great interest in doing this event again next year since the response is so good. Operation is more and more established and more and more built as we want. We haven’t consulted yet, but we want to come back. We would like to continue to attract attraction names and continue to collaborate with the City and our other partners,” concluded Ms. Pedneault.
