The iPad Pro M4 just broke a new world record

An iPad Pro M4 has just reached the score of 4,004 points with a single processor core enabled, on the Geekbench 6 app. In “multi-core”, the number reaches 13,365 points, for the same test. The first figure is an outright record, since no device in this collection has ever managed to reach this mark in the past. It must be said that, to achieve this, the owner of the touchscreen tablet did not pull any punches. In fact, he will simply have taken the time to put his iPad Pro in a freezer for around ten minutes before launching the benchmark. A radical measure, which therefore bore fruit! Please note, however, that this is not the first time that a user has implemented this stratagem, which has already enabled excellent performance previously.

The iPad Pro M4s are, as their name suggests, powered by the latest generation of in-house chips from Apple. The M4 presents itself as a speed monster, with up to ten CPU cores for the same count on the side of the graphics card integrated into the SoC (system on chip). To this must be added the famous Neural Engine with sixteen cores, whose strengths are notably at the origin of the results offered by Apple Intelligence. The new AI-powered feature suite is compatible with iPads with proprietary chips, as well as iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Mac M1, M2, M3 and their variations are also eligible.

M4 processor: the machine that powers the iPad Pro

The M4 motherboard is available in two different configurations today. The first is the one offered for tablets with 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage, and is satisfied with only nine CPU cores including three dedicated to performance and six for “high energy efficiency“. Against, therefore, ten for the fastest processor, but only available on iPad Pros with 1 TB or 2 TB of internal storage.

THE hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which allows the properties of light to be represented as faithfully as possible during assembly, is offered with both versions of the M4 chip. On the other hand, the 256 GB and 512 GB iPad Pros are limited to eight gigabytes of RAM, compared to sixteen for the 1 TB and 2 TB iPad Pros. On the other hand, the memory bandwidth reaches 120 GB per second, little imports the model. AV1 decoding is also included for each device, as is the ProRes encoding engine appreciated by lovers of beautiful images.

When will there be an M4 chip on Mac too?

The M4 processor is available today only on iPad Proa first for Apple, which usually reserved its new releases silicone to personal computers. But that’s probably only temporary, as we’ve only just learned that the Mac Pro and Mac Studio might be getting a refresh shortly. More precisely, rumors shared today are betting on a release date sticking to the 2025 calendar.

Ultimately, we can also bet on the arrival of the M4 under the hood of an Apple mixed reality headset, but it will certainly not be the next. Indeed, the potential “Vision Air” in the pipeline should be less powerful than its predecessor, and will therefore perhaps skip a more advanced generation of processor. We should also have confirmation of this during the official presentation of the article, by next year.

  • The iPad Pro M4s broke a new power record
  • The Geebench 6 benchmark app gives them a score of 4,004 points
  • The owner of the tablet that reached this score previously placed it in the freezer
