After the Honor 200 and Honor 200 Pro, Honor has just released a new weapon on the Chinese market: the Play 60 Plus. A smartphone which, at first glance, seems to suffer from a split personality. On one hand, features worthy of the high-end, on the other, astonishing concessions for 2024.

A screen that blows hot and cold

Let’s start with the screen. On the one hand, we are entitled to a 6.77-inch IPS LCD panel capable of reaching a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Heavy stuff. But be careful, a brutal return to reality: the definition is blocked at 720p. Yes, you read correctly, in 2024, Honor dares to release an HD screen on a smartphone that is not just an entry-level smartphone.

Under the hood, the surprises continue. The Play 60 Plus features a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, a very respectable processor for its category. Coupled with 12 GB of RAM (yes, you read correctly), this smartphone promises more than adequate performance for daily use. But the real tour de force is its drums. With its 6,000 mAh, the Play 60 Plus promises monstrous autonomy. Enough to easily last two days, or even more. And the 35W fast charging is just okay.

On the photo side, Honor is classic, even minimalist. A 50-megapixel f/1.8 main sensor, accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Nothing revolutionary. For selfies, a 5 megapixel sensor should do the job, nothing more. Clearly, photography is not the priority of this smartphone.

Honor has not skimped on certain details which are pleasing. The stereo speakers promise 300% more powerful sound than the previous model (to be verified in real conditions). IP64 certification ensures protection against dust and splashes. And, surprise, a 3.5 mm jack is included. On the other hand, no NFC on the program. A surprising choice in 2024, where contactless payment has become the norm.

In China, the Play 60 Plus is launched from 1499 yuan, or around 190 euros for the 12/256 GB version. If this smartphone were to be marketed in France, at what price would it be offered? With such heterogeneous characteristics, Honor seems to be groping to find the magic formula. On the one hand, we have elements worthy of the mid-range (120 Hz, large battery), on the other, concessions that are difficult to swallow (720p, no NFC). Besides, he will certainly change his name if he arrives in France one day.
