Microsoft clarifies the situation

During the Game Awards 2023, Game Science announced that Black Myth: Wukong would be released on August 20, 2024 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. But today, it’s a completely different story! Indeed, despite the reaffirmation of this date during Summer Game Fest 2024, the studio ultimately had to revise its plans for the Xbox version. The release on Microsoft consoles is therefore delayed, but no new date has yet been communicated.

This June 21, Microsoft quickly spoke up to provide clarification. In a statement posted on Windows Central, Microsoft representative Jez Corden, confirmed their continued collaboration with Game Science to bring the game to Xbox consoles. But it seems that Sony is not completely unrelated in this postponement.

Exclusivity for Sony?

We cannot comment on agreements our partners have with other platform holders“, specifies the Microsoft spokesperson. Jaz Corden mentioned having heard “rumors and whispers” during the FanFest event in Los Angeles, suggesting that Game Science could have reached some sort of exclusivity agreement with PlayStation for Black Myth: Wukong.

As you will have understood, the situation remains unclear as to the exact reasons for the delay. In the meantime, fans can hope that Game Science quickly fixes the optimization issues for a later release on Xbox.

About Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG developed by the Chinese studio Game Science, inspired by the famous 16th century Chinese novel: The Journey to the West. The gameplay draws heavily from God of War, with challenging combat, parries, dodging, and awesome boss battles.

The main character uses the Ruyi Jingu Banga magical staff capable of changing size at will, and has a variety of mythic skills:

  • Transformation : Wukong can transform into different creatures, including a cicada, a bestial enemy, and other forms to deal massive damage.
  • Cloning : the game also allows you to create clones of Wukong to help him in combat, an ability taken directly from the original novel.
  • Cloud travel : Wukong uses a cloud to move quickly, reminiscent of the famous Supersonic Cloud from the Dragon Ball series.
  • Freezing time : One of Wukong’s most useful skills is being able to freeze enemies in place, which allows you to charge attacks or avoid hits.
