Born on June 16, 1979, Emmanuel Moire celebrates his 45th birthday in 2024. A few years ago, the singer had to face the tragic death of his twin brother hit by a driver at just 29 years old. A tragedy that he mentioned to our colleagues at “Libération”.

On January 28, 2009 when he was 29 years old and he was recognized by the general public for his role of Louis XIV in the musical The sun King which he played from 2004 to 2007, Emmanuel Moire suddenly lost his twin brother Nicolas, mowed down by a driver. Interviewed by journalists from Releasethe singer who is celebrating his 45th birthday in 2024 agreed to talk about this tragic loss which completely changed his life.
“I survived for a year, I was overwhelmed with thoughts that didn’t help me live, I understood that I wasn’t going to make it“, he confided, adding that his professional career had helped him get his head above water. “He made me the man I am now“, he declared with emotion. And continued: “As long as I talk about it, as long as I am moved, it is always there.“
Thinking every day of this much missed brother, he kept many objects belonging to him including one “small notebook filled with notes written by his twin” indicate our colleagues from Release. A very precious object for the artist which reminds him of tender memories with his brother, to whom he paid homage in his title Be quiet released in the album The balance published in 2022.
Emmanuel Moire, Still standing
He also mentioned the loss of his brother in the title Still standing in 2015. “It was at 29 that I fell / A little more than before January 28 / Since then it’s the void that you left / Life that decides to pick me up / And I’m still standing, still standing” can we hear in this song.
As a reminder, Emmanuel Moire’s brother was hit by a driver on January 12, 2009. Nicolas Moire then found himself plunged into a deep coma and succumbed to his injuries a few days later, on January 28, 2009.
“I found that our relationship was quite strong, which is about values, which is about people (…) I think it took me at least three years to start grieving. At first, I wasn’t aware, I was very angry. We don’t understand, we find it very unfair. It’s not the logical sequence of things.” he also confided in the show It’s a story in 2016.
