It appears that Samsung has started shipping Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition to people who purchased the device in the first wave of pre-orders. As a reminder, the company’s latest foldable device debuted less than a month ago in South Korea before being repackaged as the Samsung W25 shortly after in China.
On the one hand, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is equipped with a new 200 MP primary camera. On the other hand, it presents several design changes compared to the normal device, the Galaxy Z Fold6. For example, Samsung reduced its thickness by more than 12% to 10.6mm, while widening it by 10mm when opened.
As a result, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has an 8-inch internal display, compared to the equivalent 7.6-inch inside the Galaxy Z Fold6. From early videos, it appears that Samsung has followed through on rumors that it will reduce the visibility of creases, which has been a flaw with all versions of the Galaxy Z Fold so far.
Therefore, it is difficult to distinguish the fold when the device’s foldable screen is active. That being said, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) no longer believes that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is equipped with Ultra Flexible Glass (UFG). Instead, he reports that Samsung used thicker ultra-thin glass (UTG), but at the expense of compatibility with the S Pen.
