“Why are the French so comfortable with making fun of the Quebec accent IN FRONT of Quebecers?”
In the clip, the woman who has lived in Quebec for eleven years deplores the fact that French “expats” (because obviously they are not immigrants) lack respect for the citizens of la belle province.
“It only makes you laugh.”
The young woman concedes that accents are sometimes “funny”, but it is unacceptable to make fun of people in their face.
“You realize that he is talking normally in front of you and just because you are not used to it, you can’t even stop yourself from bursting out laughing.”
“When I see your face for the first time, do I burst out laughing because your eyes are so close together?”
She suggests that this is probably why Quebecers living in or traveling to France often try to tone down their accent. Because we are disgusted.
We would like to thank iamjahantea for establishing the evidence.
Despite its release, in the comments, several French people explain that the Quebec accent “is really too funny” to stop laughing.
