We had to wait five years to see one of the most notable titles of recent years land on Xbox. A game made by an industry figure, known for being behind the creation of the Metal Gear series.
It arrives on Xbox five years later
Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions are celebrating the anniversary of Death Stranding in style. For the five years of the game, initially released on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, they announced the release of the title on Xbox Series X|S and Amazon Luna. This release on Xbox marks a first for Death Stranding which, published under the Sony flag, was reserved for PlayStation and PC consoles.
In fact, the last production arrived on July 14, 2020 on PC before a Director's Cut edition was made available on PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2021. You must then wait until March 30, 2022 for this latest version to be ported to PC. And so, it is since today, November 7, 2024, that Death Stranding Director's Cut has been available on Xbox Series. It was in a press release from Hideo Kojima that the announcement was made. The director also states:
I'm pleased to finally announce that Death Stranding Director's Cut will be delivered to Xbox players. I'd like to thank all the fans who have stayed in touch with us and all the members of the Xbox community who have patiently waited. Kojima Productions (Death Stranding) will continue to connect more and more players around the world, so stay tuned.
A wish to “connect the players” which seems to be close to his heart since, in any case, he matches his words with actions.
Kojima Productions has no time to be bored
In fact, Kojima Productions is taking advantage of the announcement of Death Stranding to make another major statement: the studio now owns the entire property surrounding the game. Something that was not done since, as specified at the start of the article , Sony had the rights as publisher. Kojima Productions is therefore finally the sole owner of the license. It must be said that there are several projects around it. In addition to the video game Death Stranding 2: On the beach, a film Death Stranding was also made official.
Reducing Kojima Productions to Death Stranding would, however, be a mistake, as Hideo Kojima's studio has other projects under its belt. OD was presented during The Game Awards in 2023 and will be an Xbox exclusive, while Physint, a PlayStation exclusive, was presented during a State of Play.
