The Samsung Galaxy A55 sports an elegant and refined design, inherited from its predecessor while becoming more gentrified. The Gorilla Glass Victus+ back and aluminum edges give a sturdy, luxurious feel, while subtly integrated camera sensors add a modern touch.
The screen, meanwhile, is a real feast for the eyes. Larger than that of the Galaxy A54, it offers a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with remarkable fluidity thanks to its 120 Hz refresh rate. The careful calibration of the panel, whether in Vivid or Natural mode, guarantees vibrant colors and impressive contrast, for an immersive visual experience in all circumstances.
A perfectible camera
If the main 50 megapixel sensor of the Galaxy A55 produces quite respectable photos in broad daylight, with good sharpness and satisfactory backlight management, it shows its limits in low light, where digital noise quickly creeps in.
The ultra-wide-angle and macro sensors, meanwhile, are clearly dispensable, offering disappointing results in terms of sharpness and detail. The portrait mode, unconvincing, struggles to properly outline subjects, while the digital zoom, although usable at x2, quickly loses quality beyond that. The Galaxy A55, however, makes up for it in video, where it excels thanks to effective stabilization and faithful colors.
Solid autonomy and successful software
The Galaxy A55 also impresses with its remarkable autonomy, capable of reaching two days of moderate use thanks to its 5,000 mAh battery. If the 25 W fast charging is disappointing, the One UI 6.1 software, similar to that of the Galaxy S24, offers a fluid and intuitive user experience, enhanced with welcome intelligent features, particularly in photo editing.
Finally, the presence of a few pre-installed applications is regrettable, but the promise of four major Android updates and five years of security patches ensures appreciable longevity for this mid-range smartphone.
