Mario, Zelda, Pokémon… Nintendo takes stock of the sales of its major licenses – Nintendo Switch

In the wake of the publication of his latest financial statement, Nintendo published a PDF of his briefing allowing you to see different graphs.

We know, the major licenses Nintendo have always been the asset and the true power of the brand’s consoles. To be convinced, just take a look at the sales volumes of the different Nintendo licenses.

  • Super Mario 3D series: 42 million copies
  • Mario Kart Series: 64 million copies
  • Super Mario 2D series: 41 million copies
  • Mario Party Series: 34 million copies
  • Animal Crossing Series: 46 million copies
  • Smash Bros series: 35 million copies
  • Zelda series: 53 million copies
  • Splatoon series: 26 million copies
  • Pokémon series: 99 million copies

  • Because we view our strength as our intellectual property assets, such as our characters that have grown with the memories consumers have created playing our games over the years, we have actively used our intellectual property.
  • One result of these efforts is the growth of many series of titles on Nintendo Switch.

  • Among Mario-related titles on Nintendo Switch, the Super Mario 3D series, Mario Kart series, Super Mario 2D series, and Mario Party series have each posted combined sales exceeding 30 million units.

  • Sales reach has also expanded for franchises other than Mario.
  • Nintendo Switch entries in the Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros, Legend of Zelda and Splatoon series have all become persistently successful titles that support our dedicated video game platform business.

  • The Pokémon series, originally developed for handheld gaming consoles, has also found a new home on the Nintendo Switch, where the scale of sales has increased significantly.
  • The cumulative sales volume of the series on Nintendo Switch is approaching 100 million units.
