“Expedition 33”, “Astro Bot”… The most promising video game announcements

It’s conference time for video game publishers, formerly occupied by the E3 show in Los Angeles. In the middle of a torrent of announcements, here are the discoveries which attract us greatly and which we hope for in the very near future.

Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33

The XBox conference on Sunday was superb, and an unexpected French game, created in Montpellier by Sandfall, particularly captivated us. By her story: a painter goddess who erases a generation with a brushstroke every year, and you are part of the expedition which will try to defeat her. The game scenes glimpsed show technical direction to die for and role-playing so dynamic that you don’t feel like you’re fighting turn-based.

Scheduled for 2025 on XBox Series, PS5 and PC.

Astrobot

One game was enough for PlayStation to stand out from a series of lackluster announcements. In 2020, the PS5 console was released equipped, at no additional cost, withAstro’s Playroom, a small 3D platform game that makes wonderful use of the capabilities of its DualSense controller. The little robot who multiplies the references to PlayStation games returns in an adventure which seems longer, more scripted. One of the sensations of the year, if it is as clever and successful as its predecessor.

Scheduled for September 6 on PS5.

South of Midnight

Seen a year ago, this action-adventure game offers a spicy recipe: the bayou as a setting, myths and legends (giant alligator or talking catfish) as protagonists, and a heroine endowed with sacred powers. The first in-game images are impressive.

Scheduled for 2025 on XBox Series and PC.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Microsoft now owns the license Call of Duty but do not rely on it in terms of shooting games (FPS). Doom returns, 31 years after the first part, to tell us the origins of the hero, the slayer. Monstrosities in sight, to be demolished in a half-rock, half-medieval style. With in particular a machine gun with… skulls. Hell yeah!

Scheduled for 2025 on XBox Series, PS5…

Lego Horizon Adventures

He should arrive for Christmas and under the family Christmas trees. The Lego license, after having tirelessly exploited many universes, is now showing itself to be less fruitful and perhaps more qualitative. There should be fun with Aloy, the heroine of the license Horizon where robots behave like dinosaurs, in a small brick version

Scheduled for the holidays on PS5 and Switch.
