Towards “light” Apple Glass like Ray-Ban Meta glasses

Anxious not to be left behind by Meta in the connected glasses sector, Apple is currently testing a binocular model nicknamed “Atlas” internally.

If you work at Apple, you may have received an email inviting you to participate in “ a test of connected glasses currently available on the market“. Behind this language with its innocent tone would be hidden, according to Bloomberga major phase of experimentation around connected glasses made in Apple.

Less ambitious than Apple Glass, which has been talked about for years, this top secret project (named “Atlas” internally) would in fact seek to create a competitor to Ray-Ban Meta, Facebook’s camera glasses. Not seeking to publicize the matter, the company would recruit internal testers in order to refine its product.

More affordable glasses than the Vision Pro?

According to Bloomberg the release of a final product would not be expected before “ years “, but Apple is still looking to enter the sector, or at least to have a better understanding of the market.

Concretely, these glasses would work like improved AirPods, allowing you to question Siri, analyze your environment using an integrated camera and, obviously, film the world around you in a super simple way. No micro-LED screen and augmented reality elements here, just a pair of glasses, a camera and probably a connection to an iPhone to question Apple’s virtual assistant.

In short, these Apple Glass « light » would be a less ambitious product, but undoubtedly less expensive and more mainstream than the Apple Vision Pro which is still struggling to find success. If Meta and Snapchat have already embarked on the adventure, it is a safe bet that the entry of a player like Apple could shake up the industry a little.

Orion vs Atlas ?

The project could well merge with that of putting a camera module on the AirPods whichBloombergwas echoed a few weeks ago. In one way or another, Apple seems to want to invest in the world ofwearablesbeyond what the Apple Watch or AirPods currently allow.

The connected glasses market is currently quite bubbling. If the Ray-Ban Meta is just starting to become known in Europe, Mark Zuckerberg has already presented a more ambitious version of his gadget which allows you to immerse yourself in a world of augmented reality. Fun fact, this product bears the sweet name of Orion. Faced with Apple’s Atlas project, the two companies seem to be betting big on Greek mythology.
