Mariah Carey has spoken candidly about not being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The “Hero” singer received her first nomination for the prestigious institution this year, but was not selected, with the 2024 class including Cher, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, and Ozzy Osbourne, among others.
Asked about this refusal during a recent interview for the Los Angeles Times, Mariah Carey indicated that she was a little disappointed. “My thoughts are: ‘I didn’t make the cut: I didn’t get accepted.’ Everyone was calling me saying “I think you’re going to get it!” But that didn’t happen,” she sighed.
The singer went on to joke that even her lawyer, Allen Grubman, was given priority.
“My lawyer went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before me,” the star continued, referring to the fact that he received the Ahmet Ertegun Award in 2022 for his work in the entertainment industry.
During the conversation, Mariah Carey admitted that she would like to win more Grammy Awards. Despite receiving 34 nominations during her career, she has only won five awards.
“They gave me two Grammys when I started. Then one year – an important year for me career-wise – I had six nominations with “Daydream,” “One Sweet Day,” “Always Be My Baby” and “Fantasy.” All those songs in a row ended up being so big that we were like, ‘OK, at least ‘One Sweet Day’ is going to win best duet or something,'” the singer recalls. 55 years old. “Then I sat there the whole time and didn’t get anything. I was like, “This isn’t funny.” But what can I do? Being a sore loser and saying “Fuck the Grammys”? Never mind. If they give me more Grammys, I’ll love them more.”
In addition to her five Grammys, Mariah Carrey received the Grammy Global Impact Award during the ceremony last February.
