Unveiled a few months earlier, the new Yangwang U7 gives us new information about it. In particular, we learn that the electric sedan rivaling the Tesla Model S could inaugurate the new generation of the Blade battery developed by BYD. We tell you everything!
Still little known in France, the Chinese brand Yangwang is slowly starting to make people talk about it. And in particular thanks to the presence at the last Paris Motor Show of the incredible U8, a large 4X4 with more than 1,000 horsepower, which we were able to test in China at the start of the year.
To go further
We tried the incredible “electric” car from Tesla’s competitor that floats on water: the Yangwang U8
A very promising sedan
The manufacturer also lifted the veil on its U9 supercar, which we also had the chance to approach exclusively during this same trip. But that’s not all, because the firm, which is in fact a high-end subsidiary of BYD, wants to create a complete range. And this is how it revealed its latest creation last year, the new Yangwang U7. This time it is an electric sedan, which hunts directly in the territory of the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan, among others.
If the manufacturer had already given a lot of technical information on this new arrival in the catalog, the Chinese site CNEVPost reveals new details to us. Indeed, we now learn that the new Yangwang U7 should inaugurate the very latest generation of the Blade batterydeveloped internally by BYD. This uses LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate) chemistry and was recently awarded an award for its safety in particular, since it is designed to withstand shocks. We were also able to see it during a trip to the brand’s headquarters.
But then, what is special about this new development? Actually, This is the 2nd generationwhich notably presents a major advantage with regard to recharging. This can reach a power of 5.5Cwhich means that it is five and a half times greater than the capacity. Concretely, if the capacity of a battery is 50 kWh, it will be able to collect up to 275 kW. In theory, it would be possible to go from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes with this technology.
Which is a huge advantage, because it allows you to waste a lot less time at the charging station. For comparison, it is necessary 18 minutes to fill the Porsche Taycan batterywhich has an 800 volt architecture. However, we do not yet know if this is also the case for the new Yangwang U7, but it would obviously be quite logical. We should learn a little more about it in the coming months.
A very interesting technical sheet
The article from CNEVPost also tells us that the Blade battery of the Chinese sedan displays a discharge power of 14C. For those who don’t know, this figure indicates the capacity of the accumulator to discharge quickly without being damaged. In short, the higher it is, the better! In fact, a pack at 14C will be able to discharge at 14 times its capacity safely, which is a very good point. Suffice to say that the new Yangwang U7 is particularly interesting.
Because this adds to an already particularly impressive technical sheet. And for good reason, this newcomer is equipped with not one, but four electric motors, to a total power of 1,306 horsepower. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 270 km/h. Note that the sedan takes up the e4 platform Yangwang U8 and U9 and could then be able to ride on three wheels and turn on itself. But this has not yet been confirmed.
The car measures 5.27 meters long and 2.0 meters wide and 1.15 meters high, while it is billed as the most aerodynamic production car in the world. Its Cx (drag coefficient) is displayed at 0.195. Which is, however, slightly higher than for the GAC Aion Hyper GT and its 0.19.
For now, the price of the new Yangwang U7 has not yet been announced, but it should be around around 130,000 eurosa price which will be even higher in Europe due to the increase in customs duties.
