UA 10-year-old child died the day after a fire which broke out in a gîte rented by his family for the weekend, in Furdenheim (Bas-Rhin). His parents and three brothers and sisters were able to leave the accommodation in time, reports La Voix du Nord.
Seriously injured after a fire in a home on Sunday morning, a 10-year-old girl died this Monday, reports the daily Latest News from Alsace. She found herself trapped in the attic of a gîte in an old farmhouse in Furdenheim (Bas-Rhin), which her family had rented for the weekend on Airbnb.
The fire broke out shortly before five a.m. this Sunday, November 24. Awakened by a strong smell of smoke and crackling sounds, the parents and three of the four children managed to escape by jumping through the first floor window. The mother and father of the 10-year-old girl, trapped in the attic, tried to help her but were unsuccessful.
When firefighters arrived, the child was in cardiorespiratory arrest. The emergency services managed to resuscitate the little girl after a cardiac massage, before transporting her in absolute emergency to a hospital in Strasbourg. She died this Monday.
An investigation has been opened. The accidental route seems favored to explain the origin of the fire.
