Starship takeoff on video, but like you've never seen it

The Starship test was filmed and photographed from every angle. But the Cosmic Perspective channel offers another approach to relive the performance of SpaceX's giant rocket.

What is great and rises to the firmament, before falling back into the arms of Mechazilla? It is of course the Starship, SpaceX's giant rocket, whose test organized in mid-October impressed the whole world. The American company caught for the first time, and on the first try, the first stage of the launcher with its tower.

The event was widely publicized and commented on. Photographers took numerous photos of the scene. The sequence can be seen and reviewed using a video extract. We were interested in details that had gone unnoticed. We took a look back to see how far we've come so far. We even got to play a little video game.

Rewatch the Starship's flight in captivating 4K video

It is unknown at this stage when the next flight will take place (this could happen before the end of 2024). Until then, Internet users can kill time by watching a new video about the flight of the Starship and the return to Earth of the Super Heavy (the nickname of the first stage). Another one, certainly, but of a somewhat special kind this time.

Posted online at the beginning of November by the Cosmic Perspective channel, it uses slow motion. Thanks to a camera capturing images at very high speed (this is the Freefly Ember S5K), the Cosmic Perspective team was able to recover a stream at 420 frames per second, for a rendering 17.5 times slower than real time.

Recorded in very high quality (4K), the video is fascinating to watch (although very long: allow 2 hours). We could sometimes believe ourselves in the film Oppenheimerat the moment when the volutes of smoke are traversed by the shock waves and the light resulting from the start-up of the motorization. With music, it’s hypnotizing.
