Microsoft recently announced news on its blog that should delight Word users. The copy-paste functionality of the word processing tool was in fact updated to change the default settings of the digital tool “following feedback” from people using the program, wrote Ali Forelli, manager of product. The new version allows you to paste new content without modifying the initial layout.
Automatic adaptation
By default, it is in fact the “Merge formatting” option which will now be activated, and no longer “Keep Source formatting”. To do this, Word will transform the new elements you add to your text to make them resemble as closely as possible the font, line spacing, and layout choices you chose for the rest of the document. However, it will still be possible to keep the old default collage system by modifying it in the “Options” menu of the program.
Ali Forelli clarified that this new functionality was not available for the versions of Word for the Web and for Mac. It is included in Word updates starting with version 2405 (Build 17624.20000). Clubic explains that this type of collage was already accessible to users but not by default. It was then necessary to make a specific change in the parameters, at the risk, otherwise, of having to take the time to put back the lost formatting.
