With the rollout of iOS 18, Apple added a very handy feature, Repair Assistant. This tool especially benefits the iPhone 15 since their repairability index increases by three points.
In September 2023, as usual, iFixit disassembled the iPhone 15 models to determine their repairability index. These received a 4/10. A little over a year has passed and the arrival of iOS 18 allows us to revise this judgment. Indeed, thanks to the repair assistant, it is now easier to calibrate replacement spare parts (reused from the same model). The iPhone in question thus finds “all its functionality after (almost) any repair” of what the specialized site underlines.
In fact, iFixit has revised the repairability score of the iPhone 15 which climbs to an encouraging 7/10. With these three points collected, it obtains exactly the same score as that of the iPhone 16 models.
On the other hand, the scores of older iPhones, i.e. series 12, 13 and 14, remain unchanged, with only the detailed history of services integrated into iOS 18 providing a plus. For the rest, you should always opt for pieces approved by the Apple brand. It is also this concern which led to a revision, downward this time, of the repairability index of older iPhones.
