Almost ten years after its release, Until Dawn returns with reworked graphics to haunt players once again.

Horror brought up to date

Announced last January, the PC and PS5 port‘Until Dawn is finally available. For the occasion, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Blue Moon, the studio that succeeded Supermassive Games on this new version, were keen to share a launch trailer. This video therefore plunges us once again into the heart of the horror of the game and the terrible story of the Washington family with sequences taken from the game, without highlighting the gameplay which nevertheless has some new features and adjustments.

A tainted portage

This new version has been completely redesigned under Unreal Engine 5. Thanks to Epic Games’ graphics engine, Blue Moon has reworked all of the textures, facial expressions and environments, while emphasizing gore with injuries more realistic. In addition, the game now benefits from a third-person mode in order to experience the story differently. What’s more, narrative changes have been made, particularly for the prologue.

Blue Moon has therefore accomplished a more than complete job in order to offer players this “ultimate” version of Until Dawn. Unfortunately, not all developers really get the chance to celebrate the fruits of their efforts: last month, the studio’s management announced that they had to “ make the difficult decision to significantly reduce our team in order to secure the future of our studio“. A massive blow for the teams one month before the game’s release, but also a strange decision given the timing.
