Gemini Live, the tool that allows you to chat with Google’s AI orally in a natural conversation, now knows how to speak 40 more languages, including French.
Gemini Live was one of the notable announcements of the Made by Google 2024 conference. It is a tool allowing you to chat orally with AI in a very natural and fluid way. As if you were speaking to a human being. Unfortunately, frustratingly, the artificial intelligence only knew how to speak English.
Fortunately, Google has some good news. “ Starting today and over the coming weeks, we’re expanding Gemini Live on Android phones to over 40 languages including French »we read in an email sent by the Mountain View firm.
Google thus prides itself on making its “ conversational, intuitive and useful assistant » accessible to more people. Remember that Gemini Live, initially reserved for a paid subscription, has become free.
Google is sharing, for the occasion, a tutorial explaining how to properly configure the French language. Nothing too complicated.
- Open the Google app on your smartphone and tap your profile picture at the top of the screen.
- Go to Settings > Google Assistant > Languages.
- Choose French. You can also configure a second language if you wish.
Then, to use Gemini Live, you will need to download the Gemini application if you have not already done so.
If Gemini Live has been deployed on your device, simply say “ Hey Google » or press the Live button which is symbolized by an icon representing sound waves and a star.
Google specifies to follow the instructions displayed on the screen during the first use. Then, all you have to do is speak naturally with Gemini Live.
This means being able to interrupt to add details to what you were saying, change the conversation, etc.
