The iMac M1 affected by a major display bug, there is almost no solution

It’s been more than three years since Apple launched the 24-inch iMac equipped with an M1 chip on the market. Obviously, its imposing 4.5K Retina screen constituted a strong argument at the time to motivate consumers to checkout. There is now a more recent version with the M3 chip, which requires a certain financial investment. Users therefore choose to continue using their iMac M1, but unfortunately, a major problem is harming the experience for some of them. Horizontal lines suddenly appear on Apple’s computer screen.

Horizontal lines malfunction on 24-inch iMac M1 still not resolved

It’s been around the middle of 2023 that iMac M1 owners have been complaining about seeing horizontal lines appearing on their computer screen. On the Apple forum, one of them explains that this problem occurs even though his iMac is in perfect condition. Many people are looking for a solution knowing that Restarting the computer or reinstalling macOS doesn’t solve anything.

Some consumers indicate that lines start to appear aafter a year and a half to two yearswhich explains why the wave of complaints dates from early 2023. Unfortunately, the affected iMacs are often no longer covered by Apple’s standard one-year warranty when the problem occurs (unless you subscribe to AppleCare+).

Customers indicate that Apple was kind enough to give them an exemption to repair their iMac for free, but not everyone seems to be in the same boat. In any case, this is a problem independent of the customer’s use of his iMac. “ According to the Apple support team I contacted, this is a screen malfunction and the only solution is to replace it », assures a dissatisfied user.

Owners of an iMac M1 more than a year old therefore find themselves in a very difficult situation. Hopefully, users of the iMac equipped with the M3 chip, marketed at the end of 2023, do not show the same dysfunction in the coming months. Same thing for the iMac M4 that Apple should announce at the end of October.
