Two new features
The Apple Pencil 3 should be controllable like its predecessor, but not only that. Indeed, the manufacturer would have improved the body of the stylus, which would now simply be sufficient to squeeze between his fingers to trigger an action. On the other hand, we do not yet know which one at the moment, or even if it will be possible to personalize the shortcut in question. This is already the case with the Action button iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, so why not.
Rumors also suggest that Apple could integrate the Apple Pencil 3 into its network Locate. For this, nothing could be simpler: the accessory, even in its current version, is equipped with Bluetooth. On the other hand, it is an old standard that equips it, while generation 5.3 of this standard has recently appeared. We find it for example on the latest mobiles released by Cupertino.
Bluetooth 5.3 does not, on paper, allow you to benefit from a significant increase in performance, when compared to the previous version. Whether in terms of speeds, connection distance or even frequency. As for Locate, it is a native app for iPhones, Macs and iPads, allowing, as its name suggests, to find the position of a lost device. This, through a map updated in real time to quickly find your lost belongings.
Third-generation Apple Pencil release date
The third generation Apple Penciln could be presented during a keynote. A conference is in fact organized on May 7, where we expect OLED iPad Pros and iPad Airs to be revealed alongside the stylus. The Apple Event is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. (Paris time). You will of course be able to follow him in our columns.
Be careful, however, because an announcement during this event does not mean that the product will be available the same evening. Pre-orders, perhaps, if it’s not a few days later that they appear on the Apple Online Store. What is certain, in any case, is that the first customers attracted may have to wait around a week before receiving the precious sesame at home.
Which products will be compatible?
iPads compatible with the Apple Pencil 3
Apple has a habit of blocking the compatibility of its most recent accessories with its oldest tablets or phones. This is often criticized because it is sometimes arbitrary and potentially not motivated by technical choices. So it’s a safe bet that the OLED iPad Pro, the sixth-generation 10.9-inch iPad Air, and the 12.9-inch iPad Air will be compatible.
Other premium tablets could also be eligible for the Apple Pencil 3, such as the iPad mini 6, the fifth generation 10.9-inch iPad Air, as well as some previous versions of the latter and the iPad Pro. However, this is only our estimate, which we base on the analysis of devices compatible with the Apple Pencil 2.
Other devices?
The third generation of the Apple Pencil could be compatible with theApple Vision Pro. This, however, may only be confirmed during the Worldwide Developer Conference, where Apple is expected to unveil the second edition of the mixed reality headset operating system. This is visionOS 2.
Patents show that Apple has been thinking for some time about a stylus that would be compatible with other devices, such as a computer or a mobile. From there to seeing a Pencil for iPhone or MacBook Pro, there is only one step. Which we will not cross: such a document, although useful for protecting intellectual property, is not always synonymous with commercialization.
The design of the Apple Pencil would change
Finally, know that an Apple Pencil black would be in the cards. Today, the first generation and the next only offer us white colors, as with the AirPods wireless headphones.
Of the interchangeable magnetic leads would also be there. This is obviously reminiscent of the different hardnesses available with real pencils.
