Within 3 years, it should be possible to watch DTT on mainstream smartphones, without any package or WiFi connection.

Since the end of July and throughout the summer, TDF has allowed users to test smartphones equipped with a Qualcomm chip to watch the channels 2, France 24 and Arte on the move, as well as to listen to France Bleu and France Info on their smartphone thanks to 5G Broadcast technology, which could be available as standard within three years in consumer smartphones.

This will allow users to receive television and radio programs without requiring a mobile phone subscription or Wi-Fi connection. Users will have stable and lag-free access to mobile television in busy areas where traditional mobile networks can be saturated.

Tests are currently being conducted by TDF in certain areas (Île-de-France, and ). On X, the major broadcasting operator of Digital Terrestrial Television announced on September 16, the possibility for everyone to come and test this technology until Wednesday in its pop-up store located in Passage Pommeraye in Nantes.

Karim El Naggar, Director General of Audiovisual and Networks of the TDF group, declared : “We plan to make DTT accessible on mobile within three years, and thus meet the needs of younger people in terms of content consumption. We are delighted to collaborate with various publishers, including France Télévisions, for this live test which underlines our commitment to maintaining DTT and spreading its service offering to a wider audience.”
