THE sports teachers are angry in Seine-Maritime. At the start of the school year in September 2024, they learned that their allowance was going to be reduced. Which will therefore not be without consequences. We explain.

This Wednesday, September 18, the National School Sports Day in France. But the event will not be able to take place in Seine-Maritime. Indeed, the coordinating PE teachers who organize this type of event have decided to mark their anger by canceling this project. Normally, this national school sports day is a big celebration where middle and high school students from the department come together.

“It’s certain, this day will not take place! “, says Aude Joussin, departmental co-secretary of SNEP-FSU. And if the sports teachers are angry, it is because of a drop in their annual allocation “which was announced at the start of the school year”. An allocation given to teachers who devote time to what all middle and high school students know as the UNSS (National Union of School Sports).

“It’s not a huge drop, but it’s symbolic. We always ask for more and we save money everywhere. The signal sent just after the Olympics is not good,” insists Aude Joussin.

“This drop is the straw that broke the camel’s back,” she added. In detail, according to the union, “for the department of Seine-Maritime, the drop represents 14% of the entire envelope initially planned.

Events within the establishments?

Note that, despite everything, one-off eventswill be organized at the school level. The rectorate specifies: “The district coordinators have decided not to organize this year certain additional activities usually offered to students, to protest against the reduction in the number of hours allocated to remunerate their activities.”

While reassuring that in a way, this national school sports day will still be held “within certain educational establishments in the department”.
