How Elon Musk Secretly Fought a Texas Prosecutor

-

Elon Musk funded an organization to discredit a Democratic prosecutor in Travis County, where Tesla is headquartered.

It is a tract that has caused controversy since its distribution, in early 2024, in the middle of the Democratic primary for the general elections next November. A document distributed in Travis County, Texas, then attacks the prosecutor elected since 2020.

“Jose Garza fills the streets of Austin with pedophiles and murderers,” it reads.

Violent terms, which were even criticized by his opponent Jeremy Sylestine. According to the Wall Street Journal, the leaflet actually comes from an organization secretly financed by Elon Musk.

Elon Musk vs George Soros

The interest of the boss of X, Space X and Tesla is far from being a coincidence, since it is in Austin, the capital of Travis County, that the headquarters of the car manufacturer is based. Above all, as the American media outlet recalls, José Garza was able to be elected in 2020 thanks to the financial support of George Soros. A billionaire philanthropist who has long supported the Democratic Party, and is regularly targeted by nationalist figures, including Elon Musk himself, and conspiracy theorists.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk tried to prevent Jose Garza from being re-elected in 2024 by investing “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in an organization called “Saving Austin.” He reportedly used a third-party organization to ensure his name did not appear publicly in the organization’s funding sources.

An involvement that was not crowned with success, since José Garza was elected as the Democratic candidate with 67% of the votes. A crucial step, which practically assures him of keeping his position during the November election, in a county that votes very largely Democratic.

“Destruction of Western Civilization”

While George Soros was not involved in the local Texas campaign in 2024, the American billionaire is regularly targeted by Elon Musk. In September 2023, the latter responded to a tweet relaying the conspiracy theory of the “great replacement”, assuring that the migratory influx towards Europe was caused by George Soros.

“The Soros organization seems to want nothing less than the destruction of Western civilization,” Elon Musk said at the time.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, José Garza, like his opponent in the Democratic primary, Jeremy Sylestine, assured that they were not informed of the link between Elon Musk and the organization “Saving Austin.”

This discreet political commitment by Elon Musk comes a few months before a much more official commitment, this time to support Republican candidate Donald Trump in the presidential election. The Twitter boss made his support official after the attempted assassination of Trump over the summer.
