Lille have been warned. While Bruno Genesio’s team lost on the pitch at Saint-Étienne in the opening of the fourth day of Ligue 1 (0-1), Sporting Portugal continued its perfect start to the season by signing a fifth victory in as many league games by beating Arouca (0-3). Apart from an inaugural defeat in the Portuguese Super Cup against Porto (4-3), the Lisbon club has been rolling over its opponents from weekend to weekend, as evidenced by the wins against CD Nacional (6-1) and Farense (5-0), while also getting revenge on the Dragons (2-0).

The Dogues will have to have teeth

Building on their momentum from last season, which saw them win their 20th league title in their history, Ruben Amorim’s players have an insatiable box fox in Viktor Gyökeres. A penalty scorer on Friday, the Swedish international has scored at least one goal for the seventh consecutive game and already has 11 goals and five assists in eight games, for club and country. The other two goals were scored by Pedro Gonçalves and Trincao.

Five wins, 19 goals scored, two conceded: Lille have been warned before travelling to the Estádio José Alvalade on Tuesday (9pm) for the first day of the new Champions League.
