Accident in Erlen: Track worker hit by train, life-threatening injuries

On Sunday evening, around 10:12 p.m., the cantonal emergency call center in Frauenfeld received a report that a 51-year-old SBB track worker had been hit and seriously injured by a passing Intercity train at the entrance to Erlen TG station, which was on its way from Romanshorn to Zurich.

According to the Thurgau Cantonal Police, the injured man was working on a construction truck.

“The train came to a stop a few hundred meters behind the accident site, just before Erlen station,” writes BRK News. The track worker was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries and in a critical condition.

There were around 31 passengers on the IC who were uninjured. They were evacuated from the train. Numerous emergency services from the fire service, paramedics, police, air rescue, care teams as well as members of the SBB Intervention and the Swiss Accident Investigation Board Sust were deployed on site.
