Freeskier Mathilde Gremaud is an Olympic champion, world champion and multiple X Games medalist. The 24-year-old comes from the canton of Friborg and still lives with her parents in La Roche. But that could soon be a thing of the past.
On the occasion of next week’s Big Air in Chur, Gremaud spoke to CH Media and revealed that she might soon move to Austria. The reason for this? Your partner.
This is Valentina Höll (22), one of the best mountain bike downhill riders in the world. “I think it would be very cool to live in Innsbruck,” says Gremaud. Not only would she be closer to her friend there, she would also find better training conditions.
“You can bike there well in the summer, and there are good facilities in the winter. Now when I’m home, I always have at least an hour’s drive to a freestyle park. I could go train there relatively quickly, even for a short time.”
Gremaud himself enjoys mountain biking passionately – and does so without any stress. “It’s so different to skiing for me because I don’t put any pressure on myself. It’s just about having fun.”
But back to the snow: Gremaud has a clear goal this season: the home World Championships in St. Moritz next March. «My focus is definitely on the World Cup. That’s why I have to make sure I have enough energy to be in top shape.”
