Schuhbeck’s prison relief was withdrawn – world star gives him hope

On October 27, 2022, star chef Alfons Schuhbeck (75) was sentenced to three years and two months in prison by the Munich I Regional Court for tax evasion. The 75-year-old is said to have evaded 2.3 million euros in taxes and also embezzled money from the tills of his restaurants (including “Südtiroler Stubn”).

Schuhbeck has been serving his prison sentence since August 2023, initially in the Landsberg am Lech correctional facility, and after his transfer now in the Rothenfeld prison, about 40 kilometers from Munich.

Since February 2024, Schuhbeck has received relief from prison and has been in open prison, meaning he has two days off per month. At the beginning of June he was even allowed to spend two nights in his apartment on Münchner Platzl.

New investigations: Star chef Schuhbeck’s prison privileges are revoked again

But he won’t be able to sleep there any more so quickly, because the 75-year-old’s privileges have been taken back. The reason for this measure is renewed investigations against the celebrity chef. In connection with state Corona aid, Alfons Schuhbeck is said to have ripped off a six-figure sum from a total of eleven companies.

The 75-year-old is also being investigated on suspicion of delaying insolvency. Subsidy fraud can be punished with up to five years in prison.

The Munich I public prosecutor’s office has been examining new, serious allegations against Schuhbeck since the summer of 2024; the investigation is said to be well advanced. “The proceedings can still be expected to be concluded relatively soon,” said a spokeswoman for the Munich I public prosecutor’s office to “Bild”.

New job at FC Bayern Munich for Schuhbeck again in limbo

However, the celebrity chef’s lawyer, Nicolas Stieger (56), is optimistic that no charges will be brought as part of the current investigation. However, he admitted to “Bild”: “If there is a trial and he is convicted, he will have to stay in prison longer. That is clear.”

This would also mean that a new job at Schuhbeck’s heart club, FC Bayern Munich, would be off the table. The 75-year-old was supposed to work in the bistro on the Bayern campus as part of his rehabilitation. Due to the new fraud investigations, this planned engagement is currently in limbo.

World star Arnold Schwarzenegger calls Schuhbeck in prison

Between all the bad news, there was also something encouraging for Schuhbeck. None other than world star Arnold Schwarzenegger (77) called the 75-year-old in prison and inquired about his well-being. The celebrity chef and the Hollywood star have had a close friendship that has lasted for decades.

A visit by the “Terminator” star to the Rothenfeld prison at the start of the Oktoberfest at the end of September was also planned, but could not take place due to time constraints. An acquaintance told “Bild”: “Arnold never forgets his friends!”
