And the guests, for their part, sometimes forget who their teammates are during the offensive game. Sion has a good chance to counterattack in the 60th minute. With four players, the guests storm towards three defenders, and the only thing that Ali Kabacalman, who has the ball, can think of is a desolate pass into the center – Mariano Gomez can clear. The defender also put in a good performance in this game, heading in Mounir Chouiar’s free kick for the only goal of the game. After this action, it takes around 65 minutes until Zurich’s next shot on goal. Umeh Emmanuel’s finish is not a big challenge for Sion goalie Timothy Fayulu. The absence of the suspended Juan José Perea is clearly visible, his replacement Daniel Afriyie can hardly make an impact during the first 45 minutes. His best move: He takes the free kick that makes it 1-0. Otherwise, the Ghanaian hardly takes part in the game and is substituted at halftime.
From the bench, the striker sees his team shaking a bit in the second half. The Sitten team hit the crossbar twice, once Anton Miranchuk appears alone in front of FCZ goalie Yanick Brecher, but his lob flies over the goal instead of into the net.
«It was a dirty win. We didn’t do enough in the second half and left far too much to Sion. In the end it is also a happy victory,” is Brecher’s analysis. A victory that will not go down in the annals.
But one that will certainly be good for the FCZ after last Tuesday’s bitter 1:4 defeat against St. Gallen. Nevertheless, there are some parallels to this game, especially the weak second halves and the weaknesses in Zurich’s transition game. If Sion had completed one or two counterattacks cleanly, the result would have been different. But since the subjunctive is worthless in football, the Zurich team are back at the top of the table for the time being.
