Towards a Vuelta 2023 without great sprinters, a chance for Belgium?

The Vuelta is about to experience its 78th edition between August 26 and September 17. Defending champion and again among the favorites, Remco Evenepoel will try to repeat the feat of 2022. However, the task does not look easy in the face of Primoz Roglic Or the surprise guest, Jonas Vingaard. But what about the sprinters?

With the absence of Jasper Philipsen, Mads Pedersen, Fabio Jakobsen or Wout van Aert, the Vuelta plateau will be orphaned by the biggest sprinters in the world… Good news for our compatriots? Indeed, among the big contenders for the green jersey, two Belgians are notably announced at the start: Gerben Thijssen And Milan Menten.

But runners from Intermarché-Circus-Wanty and Lotto Dstny will also have to be wary of Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Emirates), winner of the first stage of the Tour de Burgos, or the Dutch Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) And Danny van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe).

The entry list is obviously not complete and we hope to see other sprinters at the start of this Vuelta which will in principle offer four finishes intended for the fast men of the peloton.

In 2022, the green jersey was won by Pedersen.
